At this point, you might’ve seen and tried dozens, hundreds or thousands of punting tips from expert analysts. Or you might have built your own betting systems. No matter how you do it, the key objective is to pick a winner and profit overall. While this may turn out to be a dream for some and a reality for a few lucky ones, there is always the opportunity to make money and make your dreams come true.

A lot of us punters focus our time in finding new ways to win, an excellent mindset!  However there are some great practical punting tips available which will quickly make your horse race betting more effective. These practical punting tips can easily make the difference between being winner and loser over the long term. Here is a chance to take note of some of these practical punting tips and tricks.

This article will cover some of the best practical punting tips that you will want to use to end up winning when you punt!

Observe

Our first practical punting tip is to be an ultimate observer. Observing horses will help you spot any patterns or trends. One example is when a particular horse wins more often when it is on a dirt track instead of turf. Pay attention to those details so that you can recognize any patterns that might influence your selection on a particular race.

Never blindly back a poor value horse hoping it will win

Hope is not enough. Assess each horse fairly and rationally. Good old commonsense comes into play every time. If you have a nagging doubt then opt out. There will always be another day. Another horse. A better value horse.

Do your homework

Another practical punting tip is if you don’t put an effort in finding out why your horse lost, you have little to no hope of learning how to win. You should look not just at a horse’s performance that day but where you went wrong in selecting it. If you’re serious in making money through horse race betting, you should give yourself enough time to do what needs to be done and succeed.

Never bet beyond your means

Running out of money is one of the reasons why more recreational punters don’t make a consistent and long-term profit. This practical punting tip may not be rocket science, but it doesn’t matter if you start out with a very small amount. Just remember this seed capital is money you must be able to afford to lose. Bet with a bank in mind, and aim to only bet 1-3% of your betting bank on any one bet.

Back more than one horse

When you think two or more horses represent value and your analysis confirms your opinions, then be prepared to back these horses according to the level of value that’s available per your staking plan.

Last but not least…

Follow a proven strategy

Whether it is using your own successful betting strategies and/or following services run by professionals with a long term proven track record, make sure your betting activities have a purpose – long term profit!

When it comes to horse racing or even sports betting in general, it’s often wise to start with the practical punting tips.
