Speed Stars Week in Review
Saturday 5th September
+4.8u at 30% POT
3 winners from 8 selections
37.5% Strike Rate
Winners: How Womantic $2.70, Dame Giselle $3.80, Taken Off $3.90
Comments: Overall a good day slightly above the model’s long term daily profit average, we were so close to a massive day with 28.4u in selections beaten by less than 1L and a further 5.4u missed on Athiri.
Selection Review
Athiri (Unp) – absolute horror show, she jumped well and sat exactly where I had hoped and once Harto missed the jump I thought we had the race won. MacDonald was indecisive when trying to get off the back off the tiring leader, an in-depth stewards report is available on the ride with things not going our way.
Think It Over (3RD) – a very pleasing run beaten 0.4L, just couldn’t quite get there.
Dame Giselle (1ST) – she won well at her 2nd race start in the Golden Gift on a Good 3, she looks a better horse on firmer ground and she won well here despite being wide without cover throughout.
Icebath (Unp) – back further than anticipated and then hampered at the 200m losing momentum briefly, beaten 0.9L but I believe she should have won. Stewards inquiry into the ride.
Taken Off (1ST) – when he was only 3L off the leader coming to the turn, I was very confident that his late speed would see him winning but he was held up badly and it looked like he could have been a certainty beaten. Kayla eventually got the split and powered him home, I think he’s a nice horse with more to come.
How Womantic (1ST) – she was first up here and set up a solid speed for the closers but was able to hold them off for a tough win.
Brooklyn Hustle (3RD) – with the injury to Dwayne Dunn earlier, Ben Melham took the ride and he put her in a nice spot but she went a little wide on the turn and became unbalanced and had to pick back up again. She may not necessarily have won but she didn’t really get a chance to get full momentum. Winner was very good.
Eeyore Wayz (Unp) – left the run too late and ran home well but never going to win

Despite being very close to securing a potential extra 33.8u in profit yesterday, I will happily take an average profit of 4-5 units every week as consistent small wins add up to very good long term profits. We will have our days when those results do go our way and we’ll have days when they don’t, it’s the days where we just miss them and still maintain a nice profit that will keep the bank growing at a steady rate.
